Inspiration for the Community Cookbook

Creating a cookbook has been a little dream of mine for a long time. I am certainly not qualified to write a cookbook for any dietary recommendations, but I do love food, I absolutely love to cook, and over the years it has been a necessary tool for me to cultivate a greater sense of calm while supporting my health.

I can't remember when I thought that it would be fun to create a community cookbook similar to the ones I remember from my childhood, but as soon as the idea hit, I knew that I had struck an internal ache that would not quiet down.

I decided to enlist the support of my friend Kare Gnat so that we could create a collection of recipes contributed by people and businesses that we love, and hopefully be able to raise some funds and support Victoria's more vulnerable communities.

Both Kare and I have referred to it as a little love letter from kitchen to kitchen, and it's as simple as that. We are almost ready to print Volume One of the Community Cookbook, and we plan to keep seeking out more contributors for upcoming volumes. We hope that these serve as a means of creative adventure and a way to stay connected through physical distance.

We are self-publishing and printing these hardcover books and 100% of the profits will be donated to local Victoria organizations. When a cookbook is purchased online, the buyer chooses which of the 4 organizations they would like the funds to go to:

- The Victoria Women's Transition House
- Support Network for Indigenous Women and Women of Colour
- Indigenous Harm Reduction Team
- Our Place Society

Presale opens Summer 2020, and we'll have more to share about it as these arrive in our hands and are ready to land in yours. Stay tuned through our newsletter!

Love, Britt
