With our recent soft launch of our Honey Tobacco candle makeover, we thought it was time to share our best tips for how to care for your soy candle. Did you know that properly burning your candle can provide a cleaner, longer burn time? We want you to get the best out of your candle, so here are our top 4 tips:
1. First Burn
The first time you burn a soy candle, ensure it burns long enough for the wax to pool all the way to the candle’s edge (about 1 hour). This ensures a “memory burn”- the candle will burn down cleanly from then on.
2. Trim your wick
For maximum burn time, trim your wick to 1/4” before each burn, except for the first burn. Do not burn longer than 4 hours at a time. Cool for at least 2 hours before relighting. If the flame gets larger than 1“, extinguish the flame, let the candle cool, and trim the wick. This will keep your candle from burning too hot, providing maximum burn time.
3. Melt Pool
A 1/4” melt pool is optimal for scent exposure +too shallow won’t give off scent +too deep burns too hot and will burn up too fast. The melt pool is tied closely with the height of your wick- so keep your wick trimmed to 1/4" and be careful not to trim too close.
4. Use Caution
Do not burn if the wax is 1/2” or less from the bottom. Never leave a burning candle unattended, and keep your candle out of reach of children.
